Unique achievement! Antonelli stages incredible comeback and sets another record

Kimi Antonelli claimed a sensational victory at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, achieving several historic milestones in the process. The Italian driver won his home race at the age of 20 years and 12 days, becoming the youngest winner in the history of the Italian Grand Prix.

Antonelli surpassed the achievement of Sebastian Vettel, who won at Monza in 2008 at the age of 21 years, two months and 11 days. Charles Leclerc, who triumphed in 2019, remains third on the list of the youngest Italian Grand Prix winners.

What makes Antonelli’s victory particularly impressive is his starting position. The Italian began the race in 19th place but fought his way to the top, completing the second-biggest comeback to victory in Formula 1 history. The only more significant recovery was achieved by John Watson, who started 22nd and won the 1983 Long Beach Grand Prix.

In addition, Antonelli became the first Italian in 60 years to win his home Grand Prix at Monza. The last Italian to triumph there was Ludovico Scarfiotti, who did so on 4 September 1966. Six decades later, Antonelli has once again given Italian fans a historic victory.
