Victory in the Europa League could not save Ange Postecoglou, who was dismissed as Tottenham's head coach despite the club's struggles in the Premier League. However, back in his homeland, local supporters have rallied behind their illustrious compatriot.

Details: Although Postecoglou was born in Athens, he has lived in Melbourne since the age of five, and the city's mayor, Nicholas Reece, took to Instagram to urge Tottenham to reconsider their decision.

Quote: "On behalf of the people of Melbourne and Premier League fans around the world, I call on Tottenham to reconsider their decision to dismiss manager Ange Postecoglou. Here in Melbourne, we've followed Ange's career closely for decades. Never underestimate Ange's determination to win and his ability to lead teams to greatness.

We've witnessed it time and again throughout his career. This year, Tottenham made history by lifting the Europa League trophy – their first European title in 17 years. There are more trophies to come if Ange is given the chance. Don't let Tottenham become a club afraid of silverware. Let Ange guide the players to greatness in the next Premier League season," reads Reece's post.

Reminder: Tottenham have already lined up Postecoglou's replacement, with Brentford boss Thomas Frank set to take over.
