Unexpected comeback! Chelsea want to bring back defender sold to La Liga

The London club's hierarchy are ready to reconsider their past transfer decisions.

Details: English side Chelsea are exploring the possibility of bringing Portuguese defender Renato Veiga back to Stamford Bridge. The Blues are closely monitoring the 23-year-old's progress in the Spanish league and are considering a move to re-sign him.

Veiga joined Chelsea in the summer of 2024 after moving from Basel, but spent the second half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Juventus. In August 2025, the London club agreed a permanent transfer for the versatile player to Villarreal.

In the 2025/26 season, the Portuguese has established himself as a regular starter for the Yellow Submarine, impressing in Spain's La Liga and securing his place in the Portugal national team. Veiga's ability to perform effectively at centre-back, on the left flank and in a defensive midfield role has once again attracted the attention of Chelsea's scouts.

It is worth noting that the defender's current contract with Villarreal is long-term, meaning the Blues will have to make a substantial financial offer to bring the Portuguese back to London.
