Former Liverpool player and current manager of Slovenian club Celje, Albert Riera, has emerged as the leading candidate to become the new head coach of Eintracht Frankfurt.

Details: Club CEO Axel Hellmann has confirmed that the search is in its "final stages," and according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, it is the Spanish specialist who is set to take over the team in the near future. Slovenian insiders also confirm that concrete negotiations are underway between both parties.

The appointment of a new manager became a necessity after the recent dismissal of Dino Toppmöller due to disappointing results. Dennis Schmitt was named interim manager, but the club’s management is intent on hiring an experienced coach for a long-term project.

As an alternative, Eintracht considered Kjetil Knutsen, currently in charge of Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt, but Riera remains the number one target. Other potential candidates, such as Jacob Neestrup, were unavailable due to their current clubs’ reluctance to terminate contracts, while interest in Marco Rose has cooled significantly. An official announcement regarding Riera’s appointment is expected in the coming days.

Reminder: Bayern has officially opened talks with Harry Kane over a new contract.
