Barcelona are preparing to say goodbye to another La Masia graduate before the transfer window closes.

Details: According to renowned insider Matteo Moretto, Royal Antwerp have reached an agreement with Barcelona for the permanent signing of 21-year-old centre-back Álvaro Cortés. The Spanish defender is set to continue his career in Belgium after progressing through the Catalan club's youth system and earning his first opportunities with the senior team.

The clubs have agreed on a permanent transfer rather than a loan. Barcelona have also protected their position in the deal by including both a sell-on clause and a buy-back option. That structure will allow the Catalans to benefit financially from a future sale and potentially bring Cortés back if his development in Belgium convinces the club.

Cortés joined Barcelona's academy structure from Real Zaragoza in 2021 and later became an important figure for Barça Atlètic. The left-footed defender was the reserve team's captain and eventually made his official first-team debut against Deportivo Alavés, playing the full 90 minutes in central defence.

It's worth noting that Cortés played 27 league matches for Barça Atlètic in the 2025/26 season, starting every one of them and scoring three goals. Barcelona had extended his contract until 2028 earlier this year, with an option for an additional season.

Reminder: Fight for a place in the squad! Barcelona defender decides on his future
