Unexpected. Ancelotti sentenced to one year in prison in Spain
It seems Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti knew exactly when to leave Spain. The local authorities have delivered their verdict in the case against the former Real Madrid boss.
Details: According to Reuters, Ancelotti has been found guilty of tax evasion in Spain amounting to €386,000 in 2014. The Italian was handed a one-year prison sentence and ordered to pay a fine. The exact amount of the fine has not been disclosed, but it is expected to be significantly higher than the unpaid tax.
In a second tax evasion case from 2015, the Italian was acquitted. However, despite the custodial sentence, Ancelotti will not serve jail time. Under Spanish law, non-violent sentences of less than two years do not require time behind bars. Nonetheless, Ancelotti will still have a criminal record.
Reminder: The total amount of tax debt owed to Spanish fiscal authorities stands at €1.2 million.
