Underdogs Take Center Stage: Huracán and Platense Set for Apertura Final

On Sunday, June 1 at 5 p.m. local time, the Estadio Madre de Ciudades in Santiago del Estero will host an unexpected yet thrilling clash: Huracán and Platense face off in the 2025 Torneo Apertura final. As reported by ESPN and La Nación, the winner will secure a Copa Libertadores 2026 berth and spots in both the Supercopa Argentina and the Trofeo de Campeones.
Huracán reached the final by edging out Independiente in a dramatic penalty shootout after a goalless draw. Their knockout run also saw them defeat Deportivo Riestra and Rosario Central. Led by Frank Darío Kudelka, the Buenos Aires side seeks its first league title since the 1973 Metropolitano, despite lifting the Copa Argentina and Supercopa in 2014.
Platense's journey has been nothing short of remarkable. The Vicente López club took down Racing, River Plate, and San Lorenzo—all on the road—marking a giant-killing run defined by tactical discipline and timely goals. The final marks their fourth appearance in a championship match, and a chance to win their first-ever top-flight title.
The match will be broadcast live on TNT Sports and ESPN Premium. If tied after 90 minutes, extra time and penalties will decide the champion.
The most recent meeting saw Huracán win 1-0 in December with a stunning goal from Eric Ramírez. This time, history awaits as two unlikely finalists aim to etch their name into Argentine football glory.
