In the second round of the group stage of the European Championship, the Ukrainian national team played against Slovakia. The match took place in Düsseldorf on Friday, June 21.

The Slovaks started the match better and had several opportunities to open the scoring. However, Ukraine's goalkeeper, Anatoliy Trubin, showed excellent performance. Unfortunately for the blue and yellows, the goalkeeper couldn't save them for long. In the 17th minute, the Slovaks took the lead thanks to a goal by Ivan Schranz. In the first half, Slovakia played more convincingly and did not allow their opponents to create chances near their goal.

After the break, Ukraine turned the game on its head. Mykola Shaparenko, assisted by Zinchenko, blasted the ball past the Slovak goalkeeper to equalize in the 54th minute. Serhiy Rebrov's team continued to press the opponents' goal. In one situation, winger Mykhailo Mudryk hit the post.

Slovakia retreated into defense, looking for a quick counterattack, but the plan did not work. Roman Yaremchuk managed to outpace Škriniar and flick the ball past the Slovak goalkeeper. Ukraine then fell back into defense and held onto their narrow lead.

Ukraine wins 2-1, earns three points, and continues the fight for a spot in the playoffs of the 2024 European Championship.
