In the lightweight division, Dustin Poirier and Benoit St. Denis are set to engage in combat at UFC 299, as announced by Dana White.

As revealed by the President of the UFC, the bout is scheduled for the 9th of March in Miami. Additionally, in the evening's main event, Sean O'Malley will clash with Marlon Vera.

It is worth recalling that the 34-year-old "Diamond" Poirier will step into the octagon for the first time since suffering a knockout defeat in July of last year. In that encounter, Justin Gaethje delivered a high kick to his head in the second round of the UFC 291 main event. This marked Poirier's sole bout in 2023. In 2022, the American had one performance, securing a victory via rear-naked choke against compatriot Michael Chandler in the third round.

Furthermore, the 28-year-old "God of War" St. Denis is riding a five-fight winning streak after experiencing a setback in his UFC debut. He lost a close decision to Elizeu Zaleski in October 2021. In 2023, Benoit notched three victories, overcoming Brazilian Ismael Bonfim, Thiago Moises, and American Matt Frevola, all concluding in premature fashion.
