Staging Euro 2032 in Italy has been thrown into doubt by the ongoing crisis within the Italian Football Federation. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin has warned that possible political interference in the federation's work could result in Italy being stripped of the right to host the tournament.

The key issue will be the decision on whether to appoint a political commissioner. UEFA draws a clear line between cancelling the election and holding a subsequent re-vote, and direct state interference through the appointment of a commissioner. The first scenario is not expected to cause problems for Italy, while the second could have serious consequences.

The crisis is linked to the registration of elected federation president Giovanni Malagò. Despite winning the election with the support of a majority of participants and no violations being identified by observers, the procedure surrounding his election has become the subject of a dispute.

Possible loss of Euro 2032 would hurt more than just the country's prestige. Italy could also lose its main incentive for a large-scale modernization of its stadiums, which lag noticeably behind many European venues.

It should be noted that the 2032 tournament is scheduled to be hosted by Italy and Turkey.
