As a footballer we know Zbigniew Boniek as an outstanding player for Juventus and Roma, but his ‘achievements’ as a functionary, namely the president of the Polish federation, have raised questions from the local prosecutor's office.

Details: According to Wirtualna Polska, 68-year-old Boniek was questioned by the prosecutor's office in Szczecin, where he was interrogated in a case of fraud with sponsorship contracts when he was the president of PZPN. The functionary denies all accusations, but refused to comment to journalists on the trip to law enforcement.

A quote: ‘On 2 September 2024, the prosecutor of the National Prosecutor's Office in Szczecin filed criminal charges against Zbigniew B. for acting to the detriment of the PZPN. The prosecutor alleged that the suspect in the period from November 2014 to August 2021, as president of the PZPN, acting jointly and in concert with others, caused property damage to the PZPN on a large scale in the amount of more than 1 million zlotys in connection with a sponsorship agreement,’ said the spokesman for the prosecutor's office Przemyslaw Nowak.

Recall: Boniek headed the PZPN in 2014-2021. Journalists assume that due to these very allegations, the former head of the Polish federation, who has been UEFA vice-president since August 2021, is permanently in Italy, not in Poland.
