On Wednesday, April 8, the UEFA Champions League quarter-final fixtures took place, and the referee of one of the matches could now face significant disciplinary action.

Details: According to Mundo Deportivo, UEFA are currently considering the possibility of suspending the referee of the Barcelona vs Atlético Madrid clash, István Kovács, from all European competitions until the end of the season.

It has also been reported that Barcelona are prepared to lodge a formal complaint with UEFA regarding the officiating in the match against Atlético Madrid. The trigger was a handball by defender Marc Pubill.

The incident occurred after Atlético’s goalkeeper restarted play with a goal kick, when his teammate clearly handled the ball inside the penalty area, effectively stopping its movement. However, the referee chose to ignore the situation.

Reminder: It has also emerged why the VAR officials failed to properly assess the Pubill incident and did not alert the referee to what had occurred.
