UEFA could ban Roma from European competitions. What’s the reason?
Three-time Italian champion Roma is at risk of being excluded from European competitions, possibly as early as the 2025/26 season.
Details: According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the potential decision by UEFA stems from the club's issues with financial fair play. Roma currently has debts amounting to €600 million and a budget deficit of €81 million. The report indicates that Dan Friedkin's club is failing to meet UEFA's interim financial requirements aimed at resolving such issues.
If Roma’s financial deficit exceeds €50 million in the 2025 fiscal year, the club will face automatic disqualification from European tournaments.
About Roma: Currently, Roma occupies 10th place in Serie A. In the UEFA Europa League group stage, the club finished in 14th place overall and advanced to the tournament's playoffs.
Roma’s achievements include three Serie A titles, the most recent in 2001, nine Coppa Italia victories, two Supercoppa Italiana titles, and one UEFA Europa Conference League and Inter-Cities Fairs Cup win.
