On Thursday, August 29, the draw for the new UEFA Champions League season took place, revealing the group stage opponents for all teams.

Naturally, the draw sparked a wave of memes. One of the main topics was the new UEFA Champions League format and the draw itself. Many people were confused by the proceedings and humorously commented on it across social media.

Another source of amusement was a film featuring Zlatan Ibrahimović and UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin, where the two exchanged jokes at each other’s expense. Zlatan brought up the Super League, while Čeferin reminded the Swede that he has never won the Champions League.

Barcelona’s matchup with Bayern Munich also became a subject of online mockery, as users recalled previous encounters between the teams, particularly in the 2012/13 and 2020 knockout stages.

Arsenal was not spared either, with jokes circulating about the Gunners’ opponents, suggesting that it’s the UEFA Europa League disguised as the Champions League.

However, the biggest topic of ridicule was PSG and their group stage opponents. Cameras captured the reaction of Parisian president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, which quickly became meme material.

A reminder: the first matches of the new UEFA Champions League format will take place in just two weeks, on September 17-19.
