Today in Monaco, the draw for the 2024/25 Champions League took place.
However, this was an entirely unusual draw, as the tournament now follows a new format, without the traditional group stage. The 36 teams will compete in a single league, each playing 8 matches against 8 different opponents.
Before the draw began, UEFA showcased a special video where football stars expressed their frustration with the new tournament format, only to have Aleksander Čeferin explain the changes to them.
The video ended with a humorous jab at the Super League project. In a conversation with the UEFA President, Zlatan Ibrahimović quipped, “This is a Super...”, but Čeferin quickly interrupted, saying, “No, no, not here.”
To recall, the Super League was a project led by Florentino Pérez and several European clubs, intended to replace the Champions League, but the idea ultimately failed.
