Nigeria’s Christantus Uche has shared an emotional message as his chances of making the Super Eagles’ final squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations continue to fade after a difficult spell at Crystal Palace.

The 22-year-old moved to Selhurst Park on deadline day after a promising start at Getafe, where he recorded one goal and one assist in three La Liga matches. His loan included a €20 million obligation to buy if he reached a set number of starts, but the forward has barely featured under Oliver Glasner.

By mid-December, Uche had made just one start in nine appearances across all competitions, totalling only 124 minutes. The lack of playing time is a major setback compared to his strong 2023/24 season and his Super Eagles debut in June. Although named in Nigeria’s 55-man provisional list, his spot in the final squad remains at risk.

Feeling the weight of the situation, Uche wrote on Instagram: “It hurts when you go through something that kills you inside but you have to act like it doesn’t bother you at all…”.

His club future is also uncertain. Getafe president Ángel Torres admitted the situation “doesn’t look good” and said, “If he comes back, we'll buy him back again and sell him next year.” Reports indicate Palace may not trigger the €20m clause.

FIFA rules restrict Uche from joining a third club this season, meaning his only escape is a January return to Getafe if the loan allows it. For now, he remains caught between limited minutes, blocked transfer options, and slipping AFCON hopes.
