Several matches were played on Thursday as part of the tournament’s opening round.
Senegal had, however, taken the lead in the first half. The Lionceaux opened the scoring before half-time. But they were pegged back and then beaten by the young South Africans. South Africa won 2-1 at the final whistle.
In the other Group D match, Algeria and Ghana drew. Ghana led 2-0 before being pegged back by Algeria. Final score: 2-2.
