Two-thirds of footballers in England fear injury. Players' main fears revealed
Recently, more and more people are prioritizing their mental health by seeking support from psychologists, and football is no exception. Specialized services exist to support players, and it’s these services that surveyed footballers about their biggest fears.
Reminder: According to a report by the Professional Footballers' Association, 68% of surveyed players from the Premier League, the English Football League, and the Women's Super League cite the fear of injury as the main detriment to their mental health. Another 45% worry about their on-field performance, and 41% named the fear of becoming redundant as a significant concern.
There are also non-football-related issues. Social media bullying was named by 28% of players as a major issue, followed by 17% citing alcohol misuse and 15% gambling.
Reminder: In addition to these challenges, players are also concerned about what they see as an overloaded calendar, although not all players share this view.
