Details: Former NBA shooting guard and two-time league champion J.R. Smith was taken into custody in Hunt County in northeastern Texas on charges of domestic violence. According to correctional facility records, the 41-year-old former basketball player is accused of assault causing bodily injury.

Police detained the athlete at the beginning of the week, after which he was taken to a local jail, where he remains in custody without the right to immediate release. Law enforcement officials have yet to disclose details or the circumstances surrounding the conflict in an official press release.

Throughout his playing career, the flamboyant guard was repeatedly at the center of disciplinary proceedings, but his latest arrest could now lead to serious legal proceedings for the celebrated veteran.

It is worth noting that J.R. Smith spent 16 seasons in the NBA between 2004 and 2020, winning two championship titles — with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016 and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020. He was also named the league's Sixth Man of the Year for the 2012/13 season.
