Turki Al-Sheikh comments on Riyadh boxing night and Usyk vs Fury fight
On Saturday, December 21, the highly anticipated rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury took place, ending with a victory for the Ukrainian. Chief organizer Turki Al-Sheikh shared his thoughts on the event.
Details: The Saudi Arabian Royal Court Advisor with ministerial rank and current head of the General Entertainment Authority took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share his assessment. According to his calculations, Usyk had the upper hand in four more rounds, though he emphasized this does not mean Fury performed poorly.
Quote: “In the fight between Usyk and Tyson, I counted that Usyk had four more rounds... This does not mean that Tyson performed poorly, no, no, no, he gave us everything. But let’s be honest, Usyk is one of the best boxers of this generation, and he has proven it against big names. Tyson holds a special place in my heart, and he remains one of the key reasons boxing continues to preserve its legacy,” Turki wrote.
Al-Sheikh also shared his perspective on the future plans for both Usyk and Fury.
Quote: “Usyk told me he is ready to take on any fight in the future. We agreed that for now, he will rest and wait until the outcome of Dubois vs Parker... As for Tyson, I am waiting for him to rest and make his decision. I will understand if he chooses to retire, but if not, I would be delighted to organize another fight with him,” Turki added.
Reminder: The two boxers competed for the WBC, WBO, WBA, and IBO heavyweight titles, with Usyk emerging victorious via unanimous decision.
