Tunisia Set Early Pace as Nigeria Open AFCON 2025 With Win
Tunisia moved top of Group C at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a confident 3-1 win over Uganda, edging Nigeria on goal difference. While both sides began with victories, Tunisia produced one of the most controlled performances.
In Rabat, the Carthage Eagles dominated early and led in the 10th minute when Elyes Skhiri finished a well-worked move. Tunisia doubled their advantage before half-time through Elias Achouri in the 40th minute. Achouri struck again in the 64th minute to end the contest, with Denis Omedi grabbing a late consolation.
Nigeria also secured maximum points but were tested in a 2-1 win over Tanzania in Fez. Semi Ajayi headed in from an Alex Iwobi corner before the break. After VAR ruled out another goal and Tanzania equalised, Ademola Lookman responded immediately to restore the lead.
Elsewhere, Senegal recorded the biggest win as Nicolas Jackson scored twice in a 3-0 victory, saying he was “very happy to have started on this note…”. DR Congo edged Benin 1-0, with Théo Bongonda insisting, “The most important thing is to keep moving forward.”
