Trump comments on Messi. Will the Argentine star like it?
Lionel Messi has managed to impress even the occupant of the White House.
Details: US President Donald Trump publicly praised the Argentine national team captain's performance during a World Cup reception at Trump Tower in New York. The American leader highlighted the forward's hat-trick and gave a detailed breakdown of one of Messi's most brilliant moments on the pitch.
"We can see just how good Messi is! He scored a hat-trick—something that's incredibly rare in your sport," Trump said.
The US president also recalled one of the key moments involving the Argentine superstar:
"I saw Messi's pass. And I know a thing or two about football. He was tightly marked, right? Yet suddenly, he was on the right, took a shot—and he was just a quarter of an inch away from perfection. It was pure genius."
It's worth noting that Messi scored his first ever World Cup hat-trick in the tournament opener against Algeria, leading Argentina to a 3-0 victory. He now has 8 goals and 4 assists at World Cup 2026.
Reminder: Since 1966. Lionel Messi sets all-time World Cup record in a key statistic.
