Besiktas management has officially decided to end their collaboration with the head coach of the team, Fernando Santos.

This decision came after a draw against the modest Samsunspor in a home match in the Turkish Super Lig. In the last five Super Lig matches, Besiktas has only gathered 2 points and remains in fourth place, trailing Trabzonspor by 4 points.

Assuming the duties of the head coach of Besiktas will be Fernando Santos's assistant, Serdar Topraktepe.

Santos was already the fourth coach of Besiktas in the current season. Before him, the club parted ways with Senol Gunes, Burak Yilmaz, and Riza Calimbay.

In this season, Besiktas also exited the Conference League, finishing last in their group.

Before joining Besiktas, Santos coached the Polish national team, from which he was dismissed after a series of failures in qualifying for Euro 2024. Together with the Portuguese national team, he won the UEFA European Championship in 2016.
