Transfer intrigue in the Premier League! Aston Villa resume talks for Bayern midfielder
Aston Villa are firmly set on bolstering their defensive midfield before the summer transfer window slams shut.
Details: The Birmingham club has reopened negotiations with Bayern Munich over the signing of 31-year-old Portuguese midfielder João Palhinha. According to insider Jacob Tanswell of The Athletic, Aston Villa remain confident of sealing the deal, despite concrete interest from Newcastle United. The Villa board aims to agree a season-long loan with an option to buy the player outright.
As previously reported, Bayern are seeking €30 million for the Portuguese—either as a direct transfer fee or as the value of the buyout clause at the end of a loan spell. Talks between the clubs are ongoing.
It's worth noting that João Palhinha has been a Bayern player since summer 2024, but spent last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur before returning to Munich. In the 2025/26 season, the Portuguese midfielder featured in 33 Premier League matches for Spurs, scoring 5 goals and providing 2 assists. Respected portal Transfermarkt currently values the 31-year-old at €15 million.
