Tragic accident: 19-year-old cyclist Sara Piffer killed in crash
Italian cyclist Sara Piffer has tragically passed away following a horrific accident during a training session, The Sun reports. Piffer was cycling when a car unexpectedly veered into the opposite lane and struck her.
The incident occurred in Trentino, northern Italy, while Sara was riding alongside her brother Christian. After the crash, she was airlifted to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly after.
The driver of the car, a 70-year-old man, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter. Preliminary reports suggest he may not have seen Sara due to sunlight obstructing his view.
In an extraordinary act of grace, Sara’s father, Lorenzo Piffer, forgave the driver responsible for his daughter’s death. Lorenzo revealed that he was moved to do so by a request from his son Christian.
“Dad, please forgive him. Because I think he's suffering right now too,” Lorenzo recounted his son’s words.
Sara was laid to rest wearing a special cycling jersey dedicated to another cyclist, Matteo Lorenzi, who also tragically lost his life.
