TP Mazembe and Winger Chico Ushindi Part Ways After Long Absence
TP Mazembe officially ended its collaboration with Congolese winger Chico Ushindi on February 4. The decision follows several months of the player’s absence from the squad.
Ushindi, trained at Ecofoot Katumbi, joined Mazembe in 2020, renewing his contract for five years. Although he was a member of the team that won the 2017 Confederation Cup, he was loaned out to CS Don Bosco, Tanzania, and Lebanon on several occasions.
Ushindi was not included in head coach Lamine's plans after struggling to establish himself during his loan in Lebanon, despite his prior success with Mazembe.
His departure is part of a larger trend of players quitting the team; Obed Mayamba left the team after just five months. Amidst obstacles in Congolese football, such as a national league plagued by security concerns and underwhelming CAF interclub results, Mazembe has been reorganizing its team.
With 28 points from 11 games, Mazembe leads the national league at the moment.
