TP Mazembe and FC Saint-Éloi Lupopo face sanctions after chaos during Lubumbashi derby

The National Football League Management Committee imposed financial sanctions and a forfeit defeat on both clubs.

This match in the DR Congo's competitive championship could not continue beyond the first 45 minutes. Violence broke out, leading to acts of vandalism, which prevented the second half from starting. As a result, the derby between TP Mazembe and FC Saint-Éloi Lupopo was suspended.

A few days after these incidents on Sunday 8 March, the sanctions were announced. Both clubs must each pay a fine of $15,000. The next three home matches for each of the two teams will be relocated and three others in Lubumbashi will be played behind closed doors.

In addition to these joint sanctions, FC Saint-Éloi Lupopo has been ordered to repair the damage caused by its supporters at the Kamalondo Stadium, TP Mazembe's home ground. TP Mazembe goalkeeper Marc Arona Diouf has been fined $200. Linafoot has warned both clubs that if they reoffend, they could be excluded from the DR Congo championship.
