Francesco Totti has stirred controversy with a blunt take on Lionel Messi’s legendary career. Speaking on the podcast Viva el Fútbol, the former Roma captain questioned how many Ballon d’Ors Messi would’ve won had he spent his entire career at a club like Roma. “Put Messi at Roma for 25 years and tell me how many Ballon d'Ors he'd win. Ten? You know how many he'd win? Zero,” Totti stated.
It's worth noting that the comment immediately went viral on social media, partly because of the humorous back-and-forth with the hosts. One journalist responded, “That’s your fault, you idiot. You could’ve joined Madrid and won a few yourself.”
Totti stood firm: “I don’t need the Ballon d’Or. I won everything I wanted with Roma. That’s my biggest achievement. I regret nothing.”
The Italian icon spent his entire professional career with Roma, winning Serie A in 2000-01, two Coppa Italia titles, and two Supercoppa Italiana. He played 778 matches for the club and lifted the World Cup with Italy in 2006.
