Tottenham has initiated talks with Nice regarding the acquisition of defender Jean-Clair Todibo.

According to football insider Fabrizio Romano, negotiations between the clubs are proving challenging. However, Spurs are eager to secure the player who tops their shortlist for bolstering the defensive line.

Tottenham could face competition from Manchester United, who are also keeping tabs on the player.

The 23-year-old Todibo has appeared in 14 matches in Ligue 1 this season. He has been with Nice since 2021, and his contract extends until 2027. Transfermarkt values the defender, who has made two appearances for the French national team, at 35 million euros.

Spurs currently hold the fifth position in the Premier League, amassing 33 points in 17 matches. Nice sits second in Ligue 1, trailing behind PSG by five points.

Earlier reports indicated Tottenham's interest in signing the leader from Girona in January.
