Torrent’s Move to Chivas Stalls Over Salary Dispute

What seemed like a done deal has now collapsed: Domènec Torrent’s arrival at Chivas appears to be off the table. According to César Luis Merlo and ESPN, the Spanish coach requested a significant salary increase that exceeded the club’s financial limits, prompting Chivas to halt negotiations for the Apertura 2025 Liga MX season.
Discussions between the parties had reached an advanced stage, but in a final meeting, Torrent reportedly asked for twice the amount initially discussed. The unexpected demand frustrated Chivas’ board, which has now begun exploring other coaching alternatives.
While exact figures remain undisclosed, Torrent’s financial request is believed to be well above what he earned at Atlético de San Luis. Unless he lowers his expectations in the coming weeks, his appointment as Chivas manager is unlikely.
With preseason preparations approaching, Chivas must now revisit its coaching shortlist and move quickly to find a suitable replacement for the project that once had Torrent at the helm.
