Top clubs failed to take advantage of clauses in Milan leader's contract
Despite the fact that top clubs have been keeping tabs on Milan winger Rafael Leao for a long time, none of them have taken the opportunity to get the Portuguese without negotiating with the club.
According to Calciomercato, the 25-year-old winger had a €175 million kickback clause in his contract, but none have informed Milan of their intentions to activate it. The clause itself is only valid from 1 to 15 July.
So now all suitors need to enter into negotiations on Leao with Milan themselves, who do not want to let the winger go.
Earlier it was reported that the greatest interest in the Portuguese came from Saudi clubs and Al-Hilal in particular. Middle Eastern teams were interested in him through intermediaries, but did not go to Milan themselves.
The winger himself met the new head coach of the Rossoneri, Paulo Fonseca, during Euro 2024. His compatriot gave him some rest and he will start training with the team at the end of July, during the pre-season tour to the USA.
