Details: The ranking was compiled by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS), which has named the top referee annually since 1987. After two consecutive years as the winner, Polish referee Szymon Marciniak was dethroned this year by Frenchman François Letexier.
The 35-year-old Letexier topped the poll with 129 points, finishing 43 points ahead of second-place Slovenian Slavko Vinčić. Former titleholder Marciniak ranked seventh with 31 points.
