Toluca Target Ignacio Arce as New Goalkeeper for Apertura 2025

Toluca have set their sights on Argentine goalkeeper Ignacio Arce to reinforce their squad ahead of the 2025 Apertura. According to Súper Deportivo, the Liga MX champions have submitted a formal offer for the 33-year-old shot-stopper, who currently plays for Deportivo Riestra in Argentina.
The club’s need for a new keeper became urgent after Tiago Volpi’s departure. His replacement, Pau López, failed to convince in just seven starts—six in the regular season and one in the playoffs—and left the club after only five months. Luis García stepped in to finish the tournament, but the board quickly turned to the transfer market.
While domestic options like Julio González and Hugo González were considered, Toluca ultimately freed up a non-Mexican player spot, allowing them to pursue an international signing. Arce, who has played for Unión, Instituto, Platense, and San Martín de Tucumán, has yet to win major titles but is known for his experience and consistency.
The deal is not yet finalized, but negotiations are ongoing. With their eyes on a back-to-back title run under Antonio Mohamed, Toluca are eager to secure a reliable presence in goal—and all signs point to Ignacio Arce being their preferred choice.
