Toluca Signs Nicolás Castro as First Reinforcement for Apertura 2025

Fresh off their Liga MX title, Toluca have announced their first signing ahead of the Apertura 2025: Argentine midfielder Nicolás Castro. The 24-year-old arrives from Spain’s Elche, where he played a key role in securing promotion to LaLiga during the 2024–25 season.
Castro was a direct request from head coach Antonio Mohamed, who knows the player well from his early days at Newell’s Old Boys. A creative central midfielder, Castro made 34 appearances in Spain’s second tier last season, scoring four goals and providing two assists. He also previously played in Belgium with Genk.
After completing his medical exams, Castro signed his contract, donned the number 8 shirt, and joined the squad in Playa del Carmen, where Toluca are undergoing an intense preseason with triple training sessions each day.
The Red Devils will remain in the Caribbean until next Tuesday, then return to Metepec to continue preparations. They are expected to play a friendly before opening their campaign at home against Necaxa on Saturday, July 12.
