Tolu Arokodare Faces Racial Abuse Online After Wolves Penalty Miss Against Crystal Palace
Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare has been targeted with racial abuse on social media following his missed penalty in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the English Premier League on Sunday.
The Nigeria international, along with Wolves, shared several screenshots of abusive private messages he received after the match, highlighting the continued issue of racism in football. Arokodare’s first-half penalty was saved, denying Wolves a chance to take the lead.
Reacting on his Instagram story, Arokodare expressed his shock and disappointment over the messages.
"It's still unbelievable to me that we're playing in a time where people have so much freedom to communicate such racism without any consequences," he wrote.
"These individuals should have no place in our game and collectively we have to take action to punish everyone who taints the sport like this, no matter who they are."
Since joining Wolves in the summer, Arokodare has scored only two league goals. He is the third Premier League player to face racial abuse on social media in just 24 hours
