Tochukwu Nnadi has opened up on the emotions behind his unexpected inclusion in Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), describing the moment as the realization of a lifelong ambition.

The 22-year-old midfielder has enjoyed a standout season with Belgian club Zulte Waregem, and his consistent performances have earned him a place among the Super Eagles heading to Morocco. Nnadi is one of five newcomers named in the squad, underlining the coaching crew’s confidence in emerging talents ahead of the tournament.

Speaking on his selection, the young midfielder admitted the invitation came earlier than expected in his career, making the moment even more emotional for both him and his family. He also expressed confidence in his ability to contribute positively as Nigeria targets continental success.

“I know being in the national team comes with a lot of pressure. I come from a country with a lot of people, so playing for them is heavy. But I’m here to show my quality, fight for the team, and I hope we win the AFCON,” added Nnadi.

Reflecting on his journey to the senior national team, Nnadi highlighted how far he has come since his early days in Nigerian youth football.

“I was happy, my family was happy as well. It’s a dream come true. Since I was young, I’ve been dreaming to play for the national team,” he said, recalling his rise through the ranks. He added: “I played in the under 20 and now I’m in the Super Eagles. I wasn’t expecting it to be too soon, but now I’m here and I’m happy.”
