Martínez did everything he could.

Details: Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez admitted after the defeat in the 2026 World Cup final that he is considering ending his international career.

The goalkeeper stopped short of making an official announcement about his departure, but made it clear he needs time to decide on his future with the national team.

"I dreamed of bringing this trophy back, I dreamed of taking it to Argentina and making history once again. Honestly, it's hard to put this pain into words. Now it's time to reflect on a lot of things and decide how to move forward, and whether it's time to step aside. I'm truly sorry. I really tried to give everything I had to help my country and my teammates."

Martínez made his debut for Argentina in 2021 and has since played 67 matches for his national team.
