Details: According to renowned and reliable journalist and insider Ben Jacobs on his social media page on X, Manchester City is close to signing 20-year-old goalkeeper Pierce Charles from Sheffield Wednesday.
This transfer would mark a homecoming for City, as Pierce Charles is a product of the Citizens' academy. He left the club in 2020 as a free agent to join Sheffield Wednesday.
Sources report that both parties are in the final stages of negotiations. Once the deal is completed, Charles is expected to be loaned out again to try to earn the trust of Maresca and continue his development.
Manchester City rates the young goalkeeper’s progress highly and believes he could compete for a place in the first team in the future. Charles’s return is seen as part of the club’s long-term strategy to nurture promising talents.
Last season, Pierce Charles played 21 matches for Sheffield Wednesday, conceding 41 goals and providing 2 assists. According to Transfermarkt, his market value is estimated at €900,000.
