Ticking clock! Bayern hand Olise a deadline as the release clause standoff escalates
Bayern Munich's battle to keep Michael Olise has entered its decisive phase. The Bavarian giants have quietly set a deadline, and the Frenchman's stubborn condition is at the heart of it all.
Details: According to BILD, Bayern Munich have given Michael Olise until next summer to make a decision on his future. The club has doubts over a contract extension because the 24-year-old is demanding a release clause in any new deal.
The standoff has been building for weeks. Bayern want to extend Olise's contract, which runs until 2029, until 2032 with a salary of around €25 million per year, lifting him into the top earner bracket alongside Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala, up from his current €14 million. The problem is the clause: Olise's camp insists any new deal contains a release clause, something Bayern have refused to include in contracts for decades. One idea circulating in Munich would see a clause worth at least €200 million in the first year of the deal, gradually decreasing thereafter, while Sport Bild reports that negotiations are expected to be significantly more difficult than those conducted with Kane. The demand fits a pattern: Olise inserted release clauses into his contracts at Reading and Crystal Palace at every opportunity, and his Bayern deal is the first professional contract of his career without one. The stakes could hardly be higher, with Real Madrid chasing him all summer, Liverpool viewing him as the ideal heir to Mohamed Salah, and Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Arsenal all monitoring the situation. Olise's leverage only grows with every performance: he was named Bundesliga Player of the Season for 2025/26 with 15 goals and a league-leading 19 assists, recorded seven assists at the 2026 World Cup equaling the all-time record for a single edition, and has just scored two of France's three goals in the Nations League, including an 88th-minute solo winner against Belgium.
It's worth noting that Olise's current contract, signed in 2024 and valid until June 2029, contains no release clause at all, a fact Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed last October. That gives Munich real leverage, and one possible tactic is to delay the activation of any new clause until at least 2029, keeping the Frenchman locked in while testing how firm his red line really is.
Reminder: He will match Mbappé and Vinicius! Real Madrid preparing a fantastic contract for world-class star.
