In Sunday's 2-2 draw with Pyramids in the 10th round of the Egyptian Premier League at Cairo Stadium, Slovenian striker Nejc Gradišar scored a vital goal to mark his debut for Al Ahly.
Both sides displayed resiliency during the dramatic game. When Ramy Rabia accidentally put a cross into his own net in the eighteenth minute, Pyramids took the lead. Mostafa Fathi's penalty kick in the 50th minute gave Pyramids a two goal advantage.
Ramy Rabia made amends by scoring a header in the 52nd minute as Al Ahly quickly rallied. Gradišar scored the equalizer 2 minutes later after taking advantage of a defensive blunder by Ali Gabr.
Referee Mahmoud El Banna's controversial calls during the game included 2 penalties, one for each team, and a red card for Pyramids' Ahmed Tawfik for elbowing Karim El Dibis in the 40th minute following VAR review.
When Gradišar secured a penalty in the closing seconds, Al Ahly had a fantastic chance to steal the victory. The game was tied, though, as Emam Ashour's "Panenka" attempt struck the crossbar.
Under coach Krunoslav Jurcic, Pyramids now have 21 points, one more than Al Ahly, who’re in second position.
