Thriller Heroes and Tottenham’s Scoring Machine: Best XI of Matchday 10 EPL
On November 2-4, the 10th round of the English Premier League 2024/25 took place, offering fans two major upsets: Newcastle defeated Arsenal 1-0, and Bournemouth clinched a 2-1 victory over Manchester City.
Tottenham won by three goals against Aston Villa, while Liverpool narrowly held off Brighton at Anfield. The marquee matchup ended in a 1-1 draw between Manchester United and Chelsea.
Here’s the standout XI of EPL’s 10th matchday, compiled by Luis Torres:
Formation: 4-3-3
Manager: Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth)
Though Eddie Howe was a contender, Iraola deserves the spotlight. He’s already masterminded wins over both Arsenal and Manchester City, earning his spot as one of the top managers in England right now.
Goalkeeper: Mark Flekken (Brentford)
Without Flekken’s heroics, Brentford would likely have lost 1-7 to Fulham rather than 1-2. Mark made 10 saves, and though the goals came late, they could have come much earlier without him.
Left-Back: Lewis Hall (Newcastle)
With Howe missing out on Manager of the Week, we highlight Newcastle's left-back. The 20-year-old didn’t notch any goals or assists, but completely shut down Arsenal’s attacking line, including Bukayo Saka.
Center-Backs: Dara O'Shea (Ipswich) and Illia Zabarnyi (Bournemouth)
O'Shea was Ipswich’s defensive pillar as they held Leicester to a 1-1 draw. He won four aerial duels and even managed two shots on target. Meanwhile, Zabarnyi played a crucial role in Bournemouth’s win over Manchester City. He blocked several of Erling Haaland’s attempts and completed 90% of his passes.
Midfielders: Harry Wilson (Fulham), Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United), and Moisés Caicedo (Chelsea)
Wilson came off the bench to score twice in stoppage time, clinching Fulham’s win. Fernandes and Caicedo both scored in the Manchester United-Chelsea showdown. Fernandes scored a penalty, ending his scoring drought and putting up four shots, two interceptions, and two tackles. Caicedo, beyond his superb goal, had three tackles, an interception, and a won duel.
Left Winger: Callum Hudson-Odoi (Nottingham Forest)
While Son Heung-min could’ve made the list, Hudson-Odoi’s goal and performance in Forest’s 3-0 victory over West Ham earned him the spot.
Right Winger: Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth)
Semenyo’s brilliant goal in the 9th minute set Bournemouth up for their historic win over Manchester City, showing his skills as he turned in the box and fired one home.
Striker: Dominic Solanke (Tottenham)
Solanke’s two goals secured Tottenham’s dominant win over Aston Villa, proving his worth since joining the Spurs in the summer. In fact, Solanke has netted four goals against Villa over his career, a personal best against any team.
