Mexican boxer Israel Vázquez, a three-time super bantamweight world champion, passed away on December 3, Daily Mail reports. The athlete succumbed to cancer, which had been diagnosed as stage 4 sarcoma on November 11, 2024. He was just 46 years old.

Prominent boxing figures like Billy Dib and George Kambosos Jr. paid tribute to Vázquez and expressed condolences following the tragic news.

"Heartbroken to hear about the passing of Israel Vázquez after his courageous battle with cancer. He was not only a champion but also a true warrior in and out of the ring. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and all who admired him. May he rest in peace," Dib wrote on X.

Vázquez was a holder of IBF and WBC belts and gained significant fame for his epic series of fights with fellow Mexican Rafael Márquez. Their third bout was named Fight of the Year by The Ring magazine in 2008.

He retired from boxing in May 2010 after his final fight against Márquez.
