They will become the first from their respective countries to referee a match on the biggest stage in world football.

They are among the referees selected by FIFA for the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to take place this summer in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The three African officials will be making their World Cup debut. They are Pierre Atcho (Gabon), Dahane Beida (Mauritania) and Adham Makhdmeh (Libya).

They have all met FIFA’s selection criteria, which are based on the quality and consistency of their performances at the highest level. By taking part in the World Cup, which kicks off next June, the three African referees will be making history for their respective nations at the global tournament.
