Real were sensationally defeated by Celta on their home turf with a score of 0-2.
Xabi Alonso's men were reduced to ten midway through the second half after Fran García was sent off (two yellow cards in just 59 seconds) with the score at 0-1. Another sending-off followed in stoppage time, when Álvaro Carreras picked up two yellow cards even faster.
The 22-year-old defender was booked twice by the referee for dissent and was sent for an early shower. After that, Celta ruthlessly netted a second goal, sealing a stunning victory.
Remarkably, this was the first time in 20 years that Real finished a La Liga home match with just nine men on the pitch.
