“This elimination inevitably leaves a bitter taste,” said Franck Kessie after the Elephants’ World Cup campaign came to an end
The captain of the Ivory Coast national team delivered a message filled with frustration, pride and gratitude.
Ivory Coast’s World Cup 2026 campaign came to an end in the round of 32 following their 2–1 defeat to Norway. This elimination has left a sense of frustration.
Following the elimination, Franck Kessie made no secret of his frustration. In a message posted on social media, the captain of the Elephants nevertheless praised his team-mates’ commitment and the work of the coaching staff.
“It’s hard to find the words today. This elimination inevitably leaves a bitter taste. We were determined to continue this journey and build on the momentum of that historic qualification, which had made an entire country proud. Despite this disappointment, what stands out most for me is the strength of this squad.
I am proud of each and every one of my team-mates, the coaching staff and everyone who worked day in, day out to defend the colours of Ivory Coast with honour. We gave it our all right up to the very last moment, without ever giving up.”
