The former Paraguay national team goalkeeper unleashed a torrent of criticism against Courtois, questioning the Belgian's values.
Details: After 60-year-old ex-Paraguay, Real Zaragoza, and Strasbourg goalkeeper José Luis Chilavert accused Real Madrid stars Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappé of distorting values and provoking racism, current Real Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois stepped up to defend his teammates.
Courtois stated that Chilavert's comments towards Mbappé and Vini are unacceptable and themselves a form of racism:
“These comments (Chilavert's words) are shameful. In the end, you cannot say such things — that’s just another kind of insult. There must be respect.” - Courtois said.
The legendary Paraguayan goalkeeper fired back almost immediately. Chilavert doubled down, once again accusing the Real Madrid player of hypocrisy, but this time targeted Courtois personally by recalling the infamous incident where Courtois allegedly took his Belgium teammate Kevin De Bruyne's girlfriend:
“Shameful, me? What’s truly shameful is that Courtois stole his teammate De Bruyne’s girlfriend. They talk about values, but things like that shouldn’t happen.” - Chilavert responded.
