They've lost their minds! €80 million demanded for Spain national team defender!
Athletic have no intention of letting Aymeric Laporte go on the cheap.
Details: According to AS, the Bilbao club’s management have slapped a €80 million price tag on the 32-year-old centre-back. During the World Cup, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco kept a close watch on Laporte’s situation and even attended one of his playoff matches in person.
After the Spaniard’s strong showing at the World Cup, where he formed a rock-solid partnership with Pau Cubarsí, Athletic took a hardline stance: any potential buyers will have to pay the full asking price.
Laporte’s contract with the Basque side runs for another two seasons. The defender returned to Athletic in the summer of 2025 after his stint with Al-Nassr, making his comeback to Bilbao after eight years away.
It’s worth noting that last season Aymeric Laporte made 30 appearances for Athletic across all competitions: 25 in La Liga, three in the Copa del Rey, and two in the Champions League. The central defender didn’t register any goal contributions.
Reminder: Barcelona turns down Spain national team leader. Why?
