“They’re Going to Kick Me” – Antoine Semenyo Opens Up on Bournemouth Return with Manchester City
Antoine Semenyo has revealed that his former Bournemouth teammates have jokingly threatened to “kick” him when he returns to the Vitality Stadium with Manchester City in a crucial Premier League clash.
Pep Guardiola’s side travel to face AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday night as they continue their pursuit of another domestic treble. Semenyo, who left Bournemouth for Manchester City in January, has already enjoyed immediate success at the Etihad Stadium, winning two trophies since completing the move.
The Ghanaian forward played a key role in City’s FA Cup triumph over Chelsea, scoring the winning goal in the final. Meanwhile, Bournemouth has remained unbeaten since his departure and are pushing for a possible European qualification spot.
Speaking ahead of his return to the Vitality Stadium, Semenyo jokingly suggested he may have been the reason behind Bournemouth’s earlier struggles.
"I was the problem," joked Semnyo. "I am happy they are doing so well and hopefully they get into Europe too. It's going to be tough. They've got something to fight for so they're going to make it tough for us.
"It won't be weird going back. It'll be good to see everyone again. I still speak to them every day, to be honest, they've been giving me a lot of cr*p, just like they're going to kick me and this and that but it'll be good to see them all. “And obviously, it's going to be a tough game. So I'm looking forward to the challenge and hopefully we win.”
