Spain's championship triumph became a painful reminder of an unfulfilled dream for Fermín López.

Details: After clinching the World Cup, nearly every player on the Spanish national team changed their Instagram profile picture to one with the trophy. The sole exception was Fermín López, who missed the entire tournament due to injury.

The midfielder admitted he went through one of the toughest stretches of his career:

"It was the worst summer of my life. I was in the best shape of my career, everything was going perfectly, and then the injury happened.

At first, I couldn't even watch the World Cup matches because I wanted so badly to be there and play," Fermín shared.

The player suffered a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during Barcelona's match against Betis. After a medical examination, it was decided that surgery was necessary—an injury that ultimately ruled López out of the World Cup.

Without Fermín, Spain reached the final and defeated Argentina 1-0 in extra time, capturing the second World Cup title in their history.

Reminder: Barcelona lose to Real again. Spain national team leader chooses Real.
