Jessica Pegula, the world's sixth-ranked player, made a strong start to the tennis tournament at the 2024 Olympics.

At the start of the women's singles, the American easily defeated Switzerland's Victoria Golubich, the 79th ranked player in the world. The match ended with the score 6:3, 6:4. The rivals spent 1 hour and 16 minutes on court.

The American served three times, made one double fault and realised six break points out of nine.

Pegula's opponent in next round will be Ukraine's top-ranked player Elina Svitolina.

The tennis tournament at the Olympics in Paris runs from 27 July to 4 August. Participants will play for medals in five divisions: women's singles, women's doubles, men's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles.
